UPDATE: Banjo-Kazooie has been revealed and released. The SNK leak turned into Terry from Fatal Fury as the new challenger. There will be more challenger packs beyond the five currently announced ones.
The Smash Bros. roster could look a little different in a few days.
A tweet from Source Gaming’s PushDustIn sent Twitter into excitement, as it featured pictures of the previously announced Banjo/Kazooie duo inside a Japanese 7/11.
According to the same Twitter thread, a similar advertising strategy was utilized right before Hero from Dragon Quest was added to the game.
One day later, hype about Smash Bros. was revitalized once again when fans noticed that SNK was listed as a copyright holder for an unannounced Challenger Pack.
Banjo-Kazooie was one of the most requested characters for the game prior to his release, but it was considered unlikely that they’d be included, as the license was sold by Nintendo to Microsoft in 2002.
Developers from the original Banjo-Kazooie games have now formed Playtonic Games and released Yooka-Laylee, a title we critiqued back in 2017.
We’ll have more in the coming days, complete with reactions, if something Smash Bros.-related gets announced.
